Breathing Life into Stone

The breath of life within the resilient nature of stone

Artist Statement

My work is a dialogue with stone. It is a process of finding the form of life hidden within without going against the inherent grain of the stone. I do not carve the stone away, but rather liberate the time trapped within it.

The Turtle, Witness of Time

The 'Turtle', the artist's representative identity, is an aesthetic of slowness and a symbol of longevity. The image of the turtle silently going its own way aligns perfectly with the material of stone, representing unchanging values, patience, and the persistence of life.

Noh Jun-jin works to imbue cold, hard stone with warmth and life. When the artist's touch meets the surface of stone that has endured thousands of years, a new breath resides there.
